TOLL NZ CRITICAL RISK CONTROL MANAGEMENT

BACKGROUND

A Critical Risk is a situation or event that has the potential to result in a fatality if established controls and defences are ineffective. Critical Risk Controls are therefore considered to be mandatory requirements (procedural, equipment and people) that must be in place to eliminate the occurrence of a Critical Risk event(s). Toll NZ invited Leading Edge Safety Systems to develop an agreed list of Critical Ris k C ontrols and to identify high priority controls that need further refinement as part of a Critical Risk reduction program. Critical risks including loading /un loading operations, unintended contact with mobile plant, motor vehicle operations, struck by falling or moving object and fall from height.

THE RESULT

Critical Risk Control Standards were developed utilising subject matter experts to create a simpler and more effective practical reference framework to effectively manage low likelihood, high impact events that have the potential to lead to catastrophic and fatal outcomes. The benefits of adopting this approach include: Develops and maintains a commitment from all leaders across the business to implement a systematic fat ali ty prevention program; Engages all employees in the process of fatality prevention; and Ensure universal compliance with the Toll NZ Rules to Live By and Critical Risk Control Standards.
