HUMAN FACTORS IN AVIATION MAINTANANCE

BACKGROUND

Leading Edge Safety Systems was contracted by CASA to develop industry guidance material for aviation maintenance organisations in human factors consistent with Australian, ICAO and EASA international legislative requirements. A multi-media product was produced including a 200 page resource guide for engineers, a student workbook, a facilitators guide and an incident case study video called ‘Crossed Wires’ that portrays human factors challenges within a small aviation maintenance service organisation.

THE RESULT

The product was well received by aviation maintenance industry stakeholders and was subject to particular praise by Dr Bill Johnson, FAA Chief Scientific and Technical Advisor for Human Factors in Aircraft Maintenance Systems who stated that it was the new international standard for high quality human factors training materials as indicated below.
