Comdain Infrastructure strategic review of WHS management system

BACKGROUND

This project involved a systemic review of the efficacy of work health and safety (WHS) management practices, specifically in regard to a number of key Victorian gas infrastructure management contracts. The objectives of the review were to examine a sample of incident investigation reports to identify any trends in regard to safety behavior, procedural compliance or any underlying safety culture or systemic issues. Additionally an assessment of the efficacy of Comdain’s systems, processes and procedures relating to the management of WHS and critical risks within the Victorian gas infrastructure management contracts was undertaken to identify any required improvements to ensure full compliance with WHS legal obligations.

THE RESULT

From this work several improvement opportunities were identified including the implementation of a more consistent standard for systemic investigations, the effective use of an IT platform for more strategic use of WHS data, a more targeted approach to systemic investigations, the effective use of an IT platform for more strategic use of WHS data, a more targeted approach to low level safety reporting and more meaningful safety observation/engagements.
